Who we are

Ask Penny is a wellness companion service designed to support older adults and the people who care for them. We are operated by Teja Wellness. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at aleem@tejawellness.ca.

What information we collect

  • Account information — your name and email address, provided when you sign in.
  • Conversations — the messages you exchange with Penny are stored so that Penny can remember context and provide continuity across sessions.
  • Wellness signals — Penny infers general wellbeing indicators (such as mood and activity level) from your conversations. These are summarised scores, not verbatim quotes.
  • Caregiver notes — if a caregiver adds context about you (such as medications or upcoming events), that information is stored and shared with Penny to personalise your experience.
  • Reminders — any reminders you ask Penny to set are stored until they are delivered or deleted.
  • Photos — if you share a photo during a conversation, it is sent to our AI provider for analysis and then discarded. Photos are not stored long-term.

How we use your information

  • To power your conversations with Penny and make them feel personal and continuous.
  • To provide caregivers with a wellbeing summary so they can stay informed and involved.
  • To send reminders you have requested.
  • To improve the service over time (using anonymised, aggregated data only).

We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.

Who can see your information

  • You — you can always see your own conversations and reminders.
  • Your care team — caregivers you have approved can see your wellness summary, caregiver notes, and signal trends. They cannot read your full conversation history.
  • Ask Penny staff — authorised team members may access data to provide support or investigate issues. Access is logged and restricted.
  • OpenAI — your conversation messages are sent to OpenAI to generate Penny's responses. OpenAI's data usage policy applies to this processing. OpenAI does not use your data to train their models under our API agreement.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account and data, we will do so within 30 days. Contact us at aleem@tejawellness.ca to make this request.

Security

Your data is stored in encrypted databases hosted in Canada. We use industry-standard practices to protect your information. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Ask us to delete your data.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time by closing your account.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you by email or by a notice in the app before the changes take effect.
